Cuban Spanish is a dialect, easily understood by speakers of other Spanish varieties. Cuba is pleasant to visit year-round as its tropical climate promises warm temperatures and beautiful sunshine. However, like most of Central America and the Caribbean, Cuba’s dry season is often considered the best time to visit—from November to April.
March is also a great time to explore, even if only for a 3-day trip to Cuba. The cigar festival in February celebrates Cuba’s famous cigars with the ‘Habanos’ company. If you’re interested in the Havana Carnival, visit in August. Bear in mind that hurricane season runs from June to November.
Cuba’s internet access remains limited but it’s improving. Many major squares in cities offer Wi-Fi, making it easier to get online.
You’ll need to purchase an internet card for access in public spaces. While connectivity is improving, expect slower speeds and difficulty accessing certain websites. Some guesthouses may offer Wi-Fi without the need for a card, so double-check with your host.
Additionally, you can purchase Cuba SIM cards and e-SIMs with data packages before arrival. Check our Travel Guide for more information.
Cuba’s made progress in advancing LGBTQIA+ rights. Urban centres like Havana and Trinidad boast an active LGBTQIA+ scene and same-sex marriage is legal. However, public displays of affection—regardless of orientation—might not be accepted in more rural areas.
