Havana’s cultural calendar of events heats up
Cuba’s capital pulses with energy in January and February as four cultural festivals kick off the new year! Start with the Havana International Jazz Plaza Festival from 25 January to 1 February 2026, filling the city with smooth jazz and intoxicating Afro-Cuban rhythms. From 12 to 22 February 2026, the 34th Havana International Book Fair welcomes writers and readers for talks, readings and events across the city. Then, from 23 to 27 February 2026 the Festival de Habanos XXVI celebrates Cuba’s cigar-making heritage with educational seminars, masterclasses and private parties. Finally, from 26 February to 1 March 2026 you can heat up the dance floor at the Festival de la Salsa, with live music and workshops for dancers of all levels. What to pack for Cuba: Your checklist of indispensables
Travelling before the end of March? Pack casual clothes, walking shoes and beachwear for warm days, plus a scarf, hat, lined jacket and thick sweatshirt for cold evenings. Pharmacy supplies are scarce; bring mosquito repellent, sunscreen and over-the-counter and prescription medications.
Power outages are common, so pack fully charged devices and portable chargers. ATMs and credit cards are unreliable, so bring around US$100 cash per day in small bills. Want to donate via your tour leader or at your accommodation? Bring extra clothing, toiletries and school supplies.
